Agriculture Manufacturing in Canada

Farm equipment fails on a schedule set by weather rather than by planning, and a combine stopped mid-harvest is a different category of urgency than a late prototype. The sector creating that urgency is one of the country's largest: Canada's agriculture and agri-food system generated $149.2 billion of GDP in 2024, roughly 7% of the national economy and one in nine Canadian jobs1.

Most of the machining is durable rather than fine. Shafts, sprockets, hubs, bushings, and wear parts in carbon and hardened steels, plus weldments and repairs to equipment that has been in service for decades. Original drawings often no longer exist, so parts get reverse engineered from the worn original and quietly improved where the failure mode is obvious.
